Dolphins release Jordan Phillips

The Miami Dolphins released defensive tackle Jordan Phillips on Tuesday, two days after the fourth-year pro went on a first-half tirade about his playing time during Sunday's loss to the New England Patriots.

Phillips acknowledged his departure on his Instagram account and expressed happiness over the development.

"No longer a Miami Dolphin. Good luck to my brothers on the team. I'll miss ya'll, but I couldn't be happier to be out of there," Phillips wrote. "Free at last. Free at last....I'm in my bag. Don't take it personally. Sometimes you got to put your future in your own hands and live with it."

Phillips was a second-round pick in 2015 and recorded 63 tackles, 5.5 sacks and one interception in 48 games with Miami. He had five tackles and one sack in four games this season.

Phillips' sideline antics occurred during a 38-7 trouncing at the hands of the Patriots. Coach Adam Gase was not happy about the in-game complaints during a contest in which the defence was gashed for 175 rushing yards.

Miami trailed 24-0 at halftime.

"There's a reason why we're doing that," Gase told reporters in response to Phillips' anger about playing time. "There's a reason why we're subbing the way we're subbing against that team. It's not a secret why we're doing it. Whatever (defensive line coach) Kris Kocurek wants the D-linemen to do, that's what we're doing."

Phillips isn't the first player to draw the ire of Gase. Last October, Gase didn't like the way running back Jay Ajayi responded to criticism of the commitment and preparation of offensive players and shipped him to the Philadelphia Eagles. Ajayi won a Super Bowl ring with the Eagles.
