In a significant development, experienced trap shooter Shreyasi Singh has been named in the final 21-member Indian shooting squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This inclusion follows an approved quota swap by the sport's global governing body, the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) announced the decision after successful negotiations with the ISSF, which agreed to the quota swap proposal. The change was necessitated after Manu Bhaker triumphed in both air pistol and sports pistol events, allowing one quota to be reassigned to a woman trap shooter, facilitating Shreyasi's entry.
Shreyasi Singh, who also represents the Jamui constituency in Bihar Assembly under the BJP, will compete in the women's trap event alongside Rajeshwari Kumari. The Indian team will now have a full quota of two starts in the women's trap event, contributing to its 28 potential starts at the upcoming Olympics, set to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024, in Paris.
