Darwin Núñez and about a dozen Uruguay teammates climbed into the stands as fans engaged in a brawl at Bank of America Stadium after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in a Copa America semifinal on Wednesday night.

The physical and contentious match descended into chaos behind the Uruguay bench following Mexican referee César Ramos' final whistle.

With a crowd of 70,644, predominantly Colombian fans, a small group of Uruguay supporters clashed with Colombian fans as beverages were hurled.

Núñez and his teammates ascended the stairs into the crowd, and a video captured Núñez hitting a fan in Colombian colors.

Police took more than 10 minutes to restore order. The public address announcer urged fans to exit the stadium, but several remained.

About 100 Uruguayan fans and federation staff stayed on the field for over 20 minutes post-game, while Colombian fans exited to celebrate.
