India Gears Up for Paris Olympics: Comprehensive Support for Athletes

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has urged all stakeholders to ensure Indian athletes are in prime mental and physical shape for the Paris Olympics. With 118 athletes set to compete, the government is committed to providing comprehensive support, including world-class coaching and recovery facilities at the Games Village.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday urged all stakeholders to ensure that Indian athletes are in their best possible mental and physical shape as they prepare for the Paris Olympics.

A total of 118 athletes, including 48 women, across 16 sports disciplines will compete. Of these, 72 athletes are first-time qualifiers, while 26 have come through the Khelo India program.

"As our athletes enter this critical preparation phase, it's essential that they are in peak condition," Mandaviya said during a high-level review meeting of India's Olympic preparations.

The ministry has formed a coordination group to provide holistic support and resolve any issues in the lead-up and during the Games.

Mandaviya noted that more than 80% of the qualified athletes are already training in Europe, ensuring they will not face acclimatisation issues.

"The government is offering comprehensive support through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, including world-class coaches and competitive exposures," stated a sports ministry release.

A recovery centre with sports science equipment will be available for the first time at the Games Village. India House has also been set up at the Park of Nations in Paris, alongside 14 other countries.

All decisions have been made with the athletes' needs in focus, underscoring the commitment to their success and achievement, the statement added.
