Neeraj Chopra, India's star javelin thrower and reigning Olympic champion, is intensifying his training for the upcoming Paris Olympics. His coach, Klaus Bartonietz, confirmed that a persistent adductor niggle that had troubled Chopra is now ''fine'' and dismissed concerns around his fitness.
The 26-year-old, who made history at the Tokyo Olympics by clinching the gold, is India's foremost hope for a podium finish when the Paris Games commence on July 26. Despite a season plagued by fitness issues, Bartonietz insists that things are on track.
''At the moment, no issue with that (adductor niggle), it's fine,'' Bartonietz said. ''We are in a high-intensity training phase with full throwing sessions. Neeraj has been focusing more on training than competitions to avoid disrupting his preparation.'' Chopra opted out of the Paris Diamond League, focusing solely on his Olympic goals.
