Belgium's Remco Evenepoel added an Olympic gold to his world title by winning the men's individual time trial at the Paris Games, demonstrating his meteoric rise. The 24-year-old completed the 32.4km route in 36 minutes 12.16 seconds amid driving rain, outpacing Italian rival Filippo Ganna by 14.92 seconds.

Another Belgian, Wout van Aert, secured the bronze medal. Britain's Josh Tarling narrowly missed a podium spot, finishing fourth due to an early puncture and ending 2.16 seconds behind the bronze.

Evenepoel set the fastest times at the initial checkpoints, confidently navigating the wet Parisian roads. His assured performance left no room for speculation as he punched the air in victory upon crossing the finish line. By contrast, Ganna's risky strategy nearly led him into a barrier, but his strong finish knocked Van Aert from the second-place position.

Van Aert had initially set the benchmark but fell more than 10 seconds behind Ganna despite leading halfway through the course. Evenepoel and Van Aert will team up with Tiesj Benoot and Jasper Stuyven for next Saturday's 225-km road race in and around Paris.
