Spanish tennis stars Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz defeated Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 7-6 (7:4), 6-4 at the Paris Olympics. Despite initial challenges, the duo showcased their prowess and secured a place among the favorites for the men’s doubles title.

Spanish tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious over Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni, winning 7-6 (7:4), 6-4 in the men's doubles event at the Paris Olympics. With 26 singles Grand Slams between them, the duo are strong contenders for the doubles title.

Opting to receive first after winning the toss, the Argentine pair initially took a 1-0 lead, but Nadal and Alcaraz quickly equalized. The Spaniards appeared well-synchronized, playing as though they had long been partners, despite this being their first doubles match together.

Gonzalez and Molteni remained resilient, forcing a tiebreaker in the first set. Key to their success was a decisive return from Nadal, which clinched the set 7-4 in the tiebreaker. In the second set, the Argentine duo initially surged to a 3-0 lead, but the Spaniards recovered and ultimately secured the match.

Nadal's stellar serving sealed the victory, marking a strong start for the duo. In singles play, Alcaraz also claimed his first Olympic win, defeating Lebanon's Hady Habib 6-3, 6-1. Nadal is set to face Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in the singles event on Sunday.
