India's tennis campaign at the Paris Olympics suffered an early setback as Sumit Nagal and the men's doubles team of Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji crashed out after losing their opening matches to French players on Sunday.

Nagal initially fought back after losing the first set but ultimately succumbed to Corentin Moutet in a strenuous three-set match, ending 2-6 6-4 5-7 at a packed Roland Garros court.

Bopanna and Balaji were later defeated 5-7 2-6 by Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Gael Monfils, who replaced the injured Fabien Reboul. India's Olympic tennis hopes were dashed, leaving them without a medal in the sport since Leander Paes in 1996.
