Schmiedlova Upsets Paolini in Thrilling Paris Olympics Quarter-Final Clash

Slovakia's Anna Karolina Schmiedlova swatted aside fourth-seed Jasmine Paolini in three sets, 7-5 3-6 7-5, to advance into the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday. This marks the second high-level defeat in the tournament following American Coco Gauff's exit.

Initially leading 5-3 in the first set, Italian Paolini experienced a dip in form, struggling to return Schmiedlova's long groundstrokes, ultimately conceding the set 7-5.

Though Paolini, who reached the finals of the French Open and Wimbledon this year, easily won the second set, she committed 52 unforced errors compared to Schmiedlova's 32. A lack of focus culminated in her losing the crucial third set, despite serving for the match at 5-4.
