Bengaluru FC made a powerful statement in their Durand Cup 2024 debut with a resounding 4-0 victory against the Indian Navy at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Debutant Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored twice, while Captain Sunil Chhetri and Rahul Bheke added to the tally.
The match saw Bengaluru FC take control from the beginning. Sivasakthi had an early opportunity in the 9th minute, but the Indian Navy goalkeeper's outstretched leg denied him. Yet, soon after, Bheke headed in the opening goal from a Naorem Roshan corner. Sivasakthi then missed two more significant chances within minutes, hitting the crossbar on one occasion.
The Indian Navy faced further setbacks as they were reduced to ten men following Navjot's foul on Williams in the penalty box. Chhetri capitalized on the opportunity, netting from the spot. Despite consistent pressure from Bengaluru FC, Navy goalkeeper Vishnu produced several outstanding saves, notably denying Pereyra Diaz in the 79th minute. However, Diaz later scored from the resulting corner and completed his brace with a fine finish assisted by Alberto Noguera. Bengaluru FC will face Inter Kashi next on August 3 in Kolkata.
