Jonathan Wheatley, the sporting director of Red Bull, is set to become the team principal for Audi Formula 1, Red Bull announced on Thursday.

The 57-year-old, who has spent 18 years with Red Bull, will complete the current season and take a break in 2025 before joining Audi as they prepare to compete in 2026.

Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal and CEO, said, “It has been a long and successful relationship with Jonathan, over 18 years. His contribution to six world constructors' titles and seven world drivers' championships will forever be a marker in our team history.'' Audi has not commented on Red Bull's announcement.

The German automaker took over the Sauber team in March, aiming to become a full F1 constructor by 2026. Driver Nico Hülkenberg is also set to join Sauber from Haas, enhancing their German representation on the grid.

Currently, Red Bull leads the constructor standings with 408 points, while Sauber remains at the bottom without points. Red Bull's Max Verstappen leads the driver's standings as he pursues his fourth consecutive world title.
