Reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has announced his withdrawal from next week's Canadian Masters in Montreal, citing fatigue as the reason, Tennis Canada confirmed on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Spanish world number three is currently competing in the men's singles at the Paris Olympics. Both Alcaraz and his compatriot Rafa Nadal suffered a quarter-final exit in the doubles competition.

"It has been a very long season for me and due to the accumulation of matches and fatigue, I will not be able to play in Montreal this year," Alcaraz noted in a Tennis Canada statement. He added that he was looking forward to returning to Canada in the future to experience the fans' support once again. Earlier in the week, Novak Djokovic also withdrew from the Canadian Masters as he prepares for the U.S. Open.
