Judge Overturns $4.7 Billion Verdict Against NFL in Sunday Ticket Case
A U.S. judge in California overturned a $4.7 billion verdict against the NFL over alleged overcharging for Sunday Ticket broadcasts. Subscribers claimed the NFL inflated prices to protect distribution rights fees. The case may still be appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
A California judge has overturned a $4.7 billion jury verdict against the National Football League (NFL) over its Sunday Ticket broadcast pricing.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez in Los Angeles came after the NFL argued the jury's decision was unfair and resulted from misinformation. Neither the NFL nor the plaintiffs, who are subscribers, immediately commented on the decision.
Subscribers accused the NFL of inflating Sunday Ticket prices to limit subscriptions and protect broadcaster fees. This latest ruling, which can still be appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, reverses a jury's June 27 verdict that had awarded the astronomical sum based on millions of residential and commercial subscriptions.
