Sorloth had a remarkable season with Villarreal, scoring 26 goals across all competitions, with 23 of those in Laliga. This impressive tally placed him second in the league's scoring charts, just behind Girona's Artem Dovbyk, who has now moved to AS Roma.

While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, Spanish media have speculated it to be around 32 million euros ($34.9 million). Atletico's manager, Diego Simeone, had prioritized acquiring a central striker following Alvaro Morata's departure to AC Milan last month.
