Gianluca Scamacca Out for Six Months Due to ACL Injury
Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca will miss the start of the season due to an ACL injury. The Atalanta player suffered the injury during a pre-season match and will undergo surgery. He was instrumental in Atalanta's Europa League triumph, scoring six goals and helping them qualify for the Champions League.
Atalanta and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca will miss the start of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the Serie A club announced on Monday. The injury occurred during Atalanta's 4-1 defeat by Parma in a pre-season friendly on Sunday, forcing Scamacca to leave the pitch in the second half.
The 25-year-old forward is set to undergo surgery on Monday and is expected to be out of action for at least six months. This setback means Scamacca will miss Atalanta's season opener, including their UEFA Super Cup match against Real Madrid on August 14.
Scamacca played a key role in Atalanta's Europa League triumph last season, scoring six goals in the competition. He also netted 12 times in the league, contributing significantly to Atalanta's fourth-place finish and subsequent Champions League qualification. Unfortunately, he failed to score in Euro 2024, where Italy exited in the last 16.
