Ranjan Madugalle has become the first match referee to officiate in 400 men's One Day Internationals (ODIs), marking the milestone during the third match between India and Sri Lanka. Serving as a match referee since 1993, Madugalle has also presided over 216 Tests, a record in itself. The former Sri Lankan player was previously the chief match referee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) before the role was removed.
To commemorate this landmark, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the ICC presented him with a plaque. Ashley de Silva, SLC CEO, and Sean Easey, ICC Senior Manager of Umpires and Referees, lauded Madugalle for his dedication. "Ranjan's extensive refereeing portfolio and this new milestone of 400 ODIs are quite extraordinary," Easey said.
Madugalle expressed his delight, stating, "It is a great honor and privilege to have officiated in international cricket for so many years. I am grateful to the ICC, SLC, my colleagues, family, and friends for their support." During his playing career, Madugalle participated in 21 Tests and 63 ODIs as a batter for Sri Lanka.
