Ethiopian athlete Tamirat Tola clinched victory in the men's marathon at the Paris Olympics, shattering the previous Olympic record with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, 26 seconds. His win marks the end of Kenya's marathon dominance.

Belgium's Bashir Abdi earned the silver medal, trailing 21 seconds behind Tola, while Kenya's Benson Kipruto secured the bronze, finishing 34 seconds behind the victor.

Notably, two-time defending champion Eliud Kipchoge faced significant challenges throughout the race, finishing more than eight minutes behind Tola. The last non-Kenyan marathon winner was Uganda's Stephen Kiprotich at the 2012 London Games.
