England will be without captain Ben Stokes for the rest of the English summer after he sustained a hamstring injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday.

Stokes, who injured his left hamstring while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on Sunday, will be replaced by batter Ollie Pope as captain. The 33-year-old all-rounder will miss the upcoming three-match test series against Sri Lanka.

The ECB stated that Stokes aims to return for England's winter test tour of Pakistan, which includes three test matches in Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, set to begin in early October.
