Lewis Hamilton, the holder of 104 Formula One pole positions, found a reason to celebrate qualifying third in Singapore on Saturday for his 350th grand prix. Struggling with his Saturday form, the Mercedes driver has only out-qualified teammate George Russell in five out of 18 races this season.
'Qualifying has been a nightmare for quite a long time. So it feels great to be up here,' Hamilton, a seven-time world champion set to join Ferrari next year, told reporters. 'I feel very, very grateful and very, very happy.'
George Russell qualified fourth, resulting in a Mercedes second row behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Russell reflected on his tumultuous day, acknowledging that despite early challenges, fourth place was a satisfactory outcome.
