Premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has acknowledged that having a limited number of Test centres is beneficial for players; however, he stopped short of endorsing this concept for India, stating it is beyond his pay grade to make such comments.

The debate on Test centres reignited following criticism of Kanpur's Green Park stadium for its poor drainage system, which resulted in losing two full days of play during the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

Ashwin noted that star batter Virat Kohli had suggested a few years ago that India should have five major Test centres similar to Australia and England. Ashwin elaborated that limited Test centres help players become familiar with the conditions, providing a strategic advantage.
