The highly anticipated return of the Hockey India League (HIL) marks a significant development in the sport, with auctions for the 2024-25 season scheduled from October 13th to 15th at the Hyatt Regency in New Delhi. For the first time, an exclusive women's league runs parallel with the men's league, resuming after a seven-year hiatus.
The player auctions promise to shape the trajectory of the franchises, with over 1,000 participants registered. The breakdown includes 400 domestic and 150 international male players, as well as 250 domestic and 70 international female players. Candidates are distributed across three base price tiers: INR 2,00,000, INR 5,00,000, and INR 10,00,000.
Top players from India's successful Paris Olympics men's team, including Captain Harmanpreet Singh and Vice Captain Hardik Singh, headline the men's auction. Former hockey icons such as Rupinder Pal Singh and international stars add further prestige. The women's auction features top Indian talents like Captain Salima Tete, with international players such as Maria Granatto poised to impress.
