Chandler Parsons and the Memphis Grizzlies agreed Sunday to part ways indefinitely, according to a report by ESPN. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team and Parsons' agent, James Dunleavy of ISE Sports, will work on a "resolution" for Parsons' future as well as a trade for the eighth-year veteran. The Grizzlies still owe Parsons $38 million on his four-year, $94 million maximum contract, including $25.1 million in 2019-20. Per ESPN, Memphis still believes it will be able to trade Parsons, although the team has been hesitant to include a first-round pick in any deal. Parsons, 30, hasn't played for the Grizzlies since the third game of this season due to soreness in his right knee.

According to the report, the final straw between Parsons and Memphis centered around the possibility of the team assigning him to its G League affiliate. General manager Chris Wallace wanted Parsons to join the Memphis Hustle for several games before making the move to put Parsons back on the Grizzlies' active roster. G League stints are often treated as rehab assignments for veteran players, but while Parsons was willing to play with the G League affiliate, he reportedly wanted a clearer plan and timetable for his return to the active roster. Parsons, who averaged 5.7 points and 1.3 rebounds before his injury, has been cleared to play since Dec. 21.
