Indian golfer Veer Ahlawat experienced a fluctuating first round at the Magical Kenya Open, eventually finishing with a one-under 70, tying for 45th place. Initially, Ahlawat showed promise at four-under during his first nine holes at the Muthaiga Golf Club, but ran into trouble with three bogeys in his closing holes.
Rookie Shubhankar Sharma, India's other player in the event, ended with a 71, placing him in a tie for 65th. Leading the field were England's John Parry and France's Benjamin Hebert, each firing bogey-free rounds of 63 to share the top position on the leaderboard.
Ahlawat excelled on the back nine, making consecutive birdies on the 10th, 14th, and 15th, and an eagle on the 18th hole to register a 31 at four-under. However, his momentum was stalled with four bogeys across the round, including three in the last four holes.
