Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will helm India's ambitions at the 2025 All England Open badminton tournament, commencing in Birmingham this Tuesday, as reported by Olympics.com. Ranked 15th globally, Sindhu returns to fierce competition for the first time since her stint at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year.
In women's singles, along with Sindhu, world number 28 Malvika Bansod adds to India's challenge. Turning to men's singles, Lakshya Sen, ranked 10th globally, emerges as India's top contender and might clash with world number 30 HS Prannoy in the quarterfinals, should both secure victories in the earlier stages.
Sen's previous campaigns saw him reach the semifinals last year, falling to champion Jonatan Christie, and achieving runner-up status two years prior. Additionally, India's renowned men's doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, ranked seventh, will return to action following their hiatus since the Indonesia Masters.
Women's doubles sees India represented by seasoned candidates, including the two-time All-England semifinalist duo Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand and Tanisha Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa, alongside Priya Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra. The mixed doubles category features Indian pairs Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Gadde, Sathish Kumar Karunakaran-Aadya Variyath, and Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto battling for glory.
Recognized as the most revered event on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour schedule, the All England Open has historically seen victories by Indian champions Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand in the singles category.
