Nishchay, a 16-year-old shot putter from Haryana, stole the spotlight on the second day of the 20th National Youth Athletics Championships at the Patliputra Sports Complex. Following his solid performance in discus throw that earned him gold, Nishchay clinched another top spot in the shot put event, reinforcing his status as a promising talent in national athletics.
Demonstrating an impressive throw of 18.93 meters in shot put, Nishchay was considerably ahead of his rivals. Akhand Pratap Singh from Uttar Pradesh and Harpratap Singh from Punjab came in second and third respectively. Chief junior athletics coach N Ramesh commented on Nishchay's potential, highlighting him as a promising future athlete.
Despite crossing the 60-meter mark in discus, Nishchay expressed slight disappointment at not surpassing his personal best of 19 meters in shot put. The championships serve as a selection ground for the national team for the upcoming Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Saudi Arabia.
