In a strategic move, Worcestershire has announced the signing of Pakistan international leg-spinner Usama Mir on a three-year T20 contract. The agreement details that Mir will start as an overseas player for the 2026 season and transition to a homegrown player from 2027, as reported by the Worcestershire website.

Mir, 29, brings a wealth of international experience to the squad, having played for Pakistan across formats and featured in major T20 leagues like the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and The Hundred. Renowned for his precision and wicket-taking capabilities, Mir's inclusion is set to strengthen Worcestershire's spin bowling lineup.

Under the deal, Mir will initially join the team as part of its overseas player quota, before qualifying as a local player in subsequent years due to residency rules. Worcestershire's CEO, Ashley Giles, emphasized the importance of the contract's duration, noting that Mir's transformation into a homegrown player aligns with the club's long-term strategic objectives. Head Coach Alan Richardson views the signing as a testament to the club's ambition and reverence towards fortifying its squad with international expertise.
