The 64th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament started today at the Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium with a striking performance. In a highlighted Group A match, Govt Higher Secondary School from Arunachal Pradesh secured a 1-0 victory over Sainik School, Sambhalpur. Luky Liam Tamin scored the decisive goal in the 9th minute, lifting the team to an early lead, confirmed by the Subroto Cup's release.
Launching the tournament with a grand ceremony, Air Marshal S Sivakumar VSM, the Chief Guest, along with Anjum Moudgil, an Arjuna Awardee and a noted member of the Indian Shooting team, watched the vibrant proceedings. The Air Warriors Drill Team and students from Air Force Bal Bharti School added flamboyance to the day with stunning performances. In his speech, Air Marshal Sivakumar highlighted the event's significance as a testament to India's enduring football spirit, expressing hopes that the tournament would inspire more young athletes.
The competition includes 31 teams across eight groups, with entries from Sri Lanka also competing in the Junior Girls category. The group stage winners advance to the knockout rounds, with the finals scheduled for August 28, 2025, at Ambedkar Stadium. Besides Ambedkar Stadium, matches will be played at the Tejas Football Ground, Subroto Park Football Ground, and Pinto Park Football Ground.
