The Supreme Court has given its nod to the draft constitution of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), introducing a series of changes aimed at enhancing governance and transparency within the organization. This move is expected to set Indian football on a path to greater achievements.
In a landmark decision, a bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Joymalya Bagchi instructed the AIFF to swiftly adopt the revised constitution. The court underscored the necessity for state football associations to adhere to the same standards of governance as outlined by the AIFF, despite some resistance.
Among the significant changes, the court addressed issues like membership rights, an age bar for officials, and conflict of interest scenarios. The amendments also extended to expanding representation for women within the AIFF's executive committee, aligning with broader reforms in Indian sports administration.
