Ruth Chepng'etich's Marathon Record Tarnished by Doping Ban

World record marathon runner Ruth Chepng'etich, has received a three-year ban from athletics after admitting to using a banned diuretic, hydrochlorothiazide, to mask performance-enhancing drugs. The Athletics Integrity Unit has confirmed her suspension, although her records until the date of the violation remain intact.

World-record marathon holder Ruth Chepng'etich has been handed a three-year suspension for a doping violation, announced the Athletics Integrity Unit on Thursday.

The AIU revealed that Chepng'etich admitted to using the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, often used to mask performance-enhancing drugs, which resulted in her suspension starting in July.

Despite testing positive in March and accepting the sanction, her achievements prior to this period will still hold their validity.
