Usman Khawaja, the seasoned Australian opener, is under the spotlight after expressing his dissatisfaction with the Perth Stadium pitch, describing it as 'a piece of s***.' This criticism follows the first Ashes Test against England, where the match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, had lauded the pitch as 'very good.' Despite this, Cricket Australia officials are unsatisfied with Khawaja's remarks.

At an event hosted by the Usman Khawaja Foundation, Khawaja cited the unusual number of wickets taken and the extra bounce that troubled batters, including Steve Smith, as grounds for his criticism. He mentioned that such pitch behavior has been observed before in Perth during the opening days of Test matches.

Expressing his views, Khawaja stated, 'Nineteen wickets on the first day and about 20 people got hit, that's a great wicket, that seems real fair.' Highlighting the struggle of his teammate Steve Smith, he added, 'Steve Smith's by far the best cricketer I've ever played with, and he's missing the middle of his bat by a long way - he does not miss the middle of his bat. He's getting hit in the elbow.'

Khawaja emphasized that vertical movement poses more challenges than lateral movement, criticizing the day one pitch at Perth as problematic. Despite the pitch concerns, Australia triumphed in the Test, securing an eight-wicket victory and leading the five-match Ashes Test series 1-0. With the next Test scheduled at The Gabba, Brisbane, starting December 4, anticipation is building for the upcoming pink-ball game. (ANI)
