David Puig of Spain delivered a remarkable performance at the Australian PGA Championship, securing the most significant title of his career and matching the achievement of fellow Spaniard Seve Ballesteros, who claimed the title in 1981.
Emerging as a co-leader into the final round on Sunday, Puig's impressive 5-under 66, highlighted by early birdies, allowed him to navigate past a tightly packed leaderboard. He became only the ninth international victor and the second since 1998, distinguishing himself alongside Ballesteros as the sole Spanish winners.
Puig acknowledged, 'It feels amazing ... especially to win here in Australia, and I played some awesome golf.' A composed two-putt on the final hole secured a two-shot triumph over China's Wenyi Ding. This win holds special significance for Puig, marking his inaugural title on the DP World Tour.
