New Delhi saw a significant leap in its sports profile as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the inaugural Delhi Khel Mahakumbh at Chhatrasal Stadium. Describing the event as a transformative stride for the capital's athletes, Gupta emphasized the initiative's role in furnishing young athletes with much-needed platforms and opportunities.

Since assuming office, Gupta's administration has been committed to bolstering youth engagement in sports, disbursing approximately Rs 33 crore in long-pending prize money. The government appointed prominent athletes like Olympic medalist Ravi Dahiya and cricketer Shikhar Dhawan as event brand ambassadors to inspire participants.

The new sports policy promises Rs 7 crore for Olympic gold medalists and substantial aid for national and international competitors. Plans include building new stadiums and upgrading training facilities. By 2025-2026, Delhi aims to evolve into India's sports capital, engaging thousands more athletes annually.
