Fast bowler Brett Randell made cricket history by becoming the first player to take five wickets in five balls in first-class cricket. His performance during the Plunket Shield match against Northern Districts also saw him take six wickets in eight deliveries, securing figures of 7-25.
Central Stags fast bowler Brett Randell etched his name into the annals of cricket history on Sunday, becoming the first player to achieve the remarkable feat of taking five wickets in as many balls during a Plunket Shield match against Northern Districts in Napier.
The 30-year-old's extraordinary spell dismantled Northern Districts' lineup for just 82, responding to Central Districts' total of 373. Randell's unprecedented performance also saw him secure six wickets in a mere eight deliveries, culminating in impressive figures of 7-25 from 11 overs.
'I am pretty blown away,' Randell shared of his historic achievement. 'It was a pinch-me moment. I focused on consistent placement, and our strategy paid off spectacularly.' This accomplishment marks only the eighth hat-trick for the Stags in the 75-year history of Plunket Shield cricket.
