The Board of Control for Cricket in India's vice president, Rajeev Shukla, lauded the Indian cricket team's formidable strength following their resounding T20 World Cup victory. India successfully maintained their global dominance by defeating New Zealand in the 2026 final, at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, marking their third championship win.
Rajeev Shukla commended the team management for their unwavering support of Sanju Samson, despite his initial lackluster performance, which was eventually vindicated by his stellar form. India emerged victorious with a 96-run lead, establishing themselves as the first team to clinch the T20 World Cup thrice and achieve consecutive title wins.
Sanju Samson's remarkable 89 off 46 balls, alongside significant contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shivam Dube, underpinned India's impressive first-innings total of 254. Maharashtra minister Yogesh Ramdas Kadam also acknowledged the team's solid start, underscoring the importance of early performances.
New Zealand chose to field first but was quickly put on the back foot by a record stand between Samson and Sharma. Despite a promising partnership in their chase, New Zealand fell short, all-out for 159, highlighting India's dominant performance orchestrated by key bowlers like Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah.
