CAF Doubles Down: Massive Prize Boost for African Club Competitions
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announces significant increases in prize money for its top club competitions, the Champions League and Confederation Cup. This boost aims to fortify African teams’ global competitiveness. The prize pool has surged by over 100% since Patrice Motsepe became president in 2021.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a major increase in prize money for the continent's leading club competitions, with raises up to 100% for the season. According to CAF president Patrice Motsepe, this increase will enhance the global competitiveness of African teams.
Starting in the 2025-26 season, winners of the CAF Champions League will earn $6 million, marking a 50% rise. Meanwhile, the Confederation Cup champions will see their prize double to $4 million. These increments continue the rapid prize growth since Motsepe's leadership began in 2021.
Over five years, Champions League payouts jumped by 140%, and Confederation Cup rewards surged by 220%. The total annual prize money for African clubs has increased from $18.8 million in 2021 to over $42 million. Additionally, CAF implemented financial support for clubs eliminated early, encouraging record participation.
