Kolkata Knight Riders face a major setback as fast bowler Harshit Rana is sidelined for the entire IPL 2026 season due to a ligament injury. The incident occurred during a warm-up game for the T20 World Cup against South Africa, leading to surgery in February and a lengthy rehabilitation.
KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar acknowledged Rana's absence as a significant blow, especially as the young cricketer had become an integral part of the team in recent seasons. Nayar noted the team's search for a suitable replacement continues as they evaluate potential candidates.
Compounding the team's challenges, Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana's participation in the IPL remains uncertain as he undergoes rehabilitation. In the meantime, other bowlers like Navdeep Saini and Simarjeet Singh have been training at Eden Gardens as KKR prepares for their opening match against Mumbai Indians.
