A Swiss hockey coach, Patrick Fischer, has been dismissed following his admission to using a fraudulent COVID-19 vaccination certificate to bypass China's travel restrictions for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Initially backed by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation, the federation swiftly reversed its stance amid public scrutiny.

Federation president Urs Kessler stated that although the legal case was closed, the federation takes the public debate about values and trust seriously. Fischer's actions contradicted the fundamental values of Swiss Ice Hockey, prompting his dismissal. Fischer expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the breach of trust.

Fischer, who faced a personal crisis over vaccination, was fined nearly 39,000 Swiss francs for document forgery. Jan Cadieux, former under-20 coach, will assume Fischer's role immediately. Fischer leaves behind a successful tenure with three silver medals in world championships amidst the strict COVID-19 protocols of the 2022 Games.
