Lalit Modi Criticizes Political Influence on Indo-Pak Cricket Relations

Former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi has candidly dissected the intricate dynamics obstructing the resumption of India-Pakistan cricket matches. In a conversation on The Overlap Podcast with ex-England cricketer Michael Vaughan, Modi attributed the stagnation to the high degree of politicization within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Modi specified that the PCB's lack of autonomy due to external political influences is a major barrier. According to him, entrenched political tensions between the two nations will likely intensify, further hindering any progress. He noted that the last bilateral series between India and Pakistan occurred during Pakistan's 2012-13 India tour.

Emphasizing the impact on players and fans, Modi expressed skepticism about future matches. He conveyed his concern that strong national sentiments and the PCB's politicized environment may prevent prospective India-Pakistan encounters, lamenting the ongoing strain in cricketing relations between the countries.
