Retief Goosen's Electrifying Victory at Mitsubishi Electric Classic

Retief Goosen clinched victory at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, held at TPC Sugarloaf, in a remarkable feat 24 years after his win at the same venue during the BellSouth Classic. The seasoned golfer closed with an impressive 14-point round under the modified Stableford scoring system, surpassing competitor Stephen Ames by two points.

In his 150th start on the senior tour, 57-year-old Goosen secured his fifth win, finishing with a total of 39 points after birdieing the par-5 18th. Notably, Goosen also claimed victory at the PGA Tour's 2005 International using the same scoring format, which was being employed for the first time in this senior event.

The tournament saw Goosen navigating a scoring format that awarded points for albatrosses, eagles, and birdies while penalizing bogeys. Despite a formidable challenge from Ames, who collected 19 points in the final round, Goosen's consistent performance sealed his victory, leaving Zach Johnson and Stewart Cink in third and fourth place, respectively.
