South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung has been working to mend ties with North Korea, which have deteriorated in recent years. In 2018, North Korea's athletes participated in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, forming a unified ice hockey team for the first time with South Korea.

The upcoming match is part of the Asian Women's Champions League semi-final. The North Korean delegation will arrive on May 17, and if they lose, they'll return home the following day. Seoul will offer limited support, treating it as an international club event rather than an inter-Korean affair.
