Phil Mickelson, a celebrated figure in golf with six major titles to his name, will not be competing in the upcoming PGA Championship. Tournament organizers announced his withdrawal due to a family health issue that he has been dealing with for some time.

This news follows Mickelson's previous statement before the Masters about taking an 'extended' break to address family matters. Mickelson, who missed the first four events of the 2026 LIV Golf season due to this issue, had just returned to the sport in South Africa, finishing tied for 48th, before his latest decision to step back.

Looking back, Mickelson achieved a history-making victory at the 2021 PGA Championship by becoming the oldest major champion. With Mickelson stepping aside, Max Homa will take his spot in the lineup for the championship set to take place from May 14-17 at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
