Sky Secures Long-term Formula One Broadcast Rights in UK and Italy
Liberty Media's Formula One has extended its broadcast deals with Sky in the UK, Ireland, and Italy. The five-year contracts now run through 2034 for the UK and Ireland, and 2032 for Italy. This deal highlights the sport's growth in viewership, particularly among women and young audiences.
Liberty Media-owned Formula One has confirmed the extension of its broadcasting agreements with Sky television across the UK, Ireland, and Italy. The newly signed five-year contracts now ensure coverage through to the 2034 season for the UK and Ireland, and until 2032 for Italy.
Though financial specifics remain undisclosed, sources suggest the UK and Ireland extension is valued around 200 million pounds annually, totaling a 1 billion pound deal. Under this agreement, free-to-air broadcasts of key events like the British Grand Prix will continue in Britain, alongside Italy's free coverage of its own Grand Prix.
Sky's acquisition of rights since 2019 has correlated with a significant increase in audience engagement, including a 90% rise in overall viewership in the UK and Ireland, with female and under-35 demographics particularly driving growth.
