Grappler's Grit: Vinesh Phogat's Battle with Wrestling Federation
Sakshi Malik supports Vinesh Phogat's fight against the Wrestling Federation of India over retirement norms for new mothers. Vinesh, a politician and a mother, is challenging her ineligibility to compete, as declared by WFI. Malik urges authorities to reconsider the rules to support new mothers' athletic careers.
Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik has voiced her support for fellow wrestler Vinesh Phogat amidst her clash with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The controversy stems from Phogat's attempt to return from retirement, a move complicated by WFI rules requiring a six-month notice period.
Despite the federation's declaration of her ineligibility, Phogat boldly appeared at the National Open Ranking Tournament. Phogat is battling these regulations, highlighting that many countries are easing norms to accommodate new mothers aiming to resume their athletic careers.
Malik, previously allied with Phogat during protests against alleged misconduct by a WFI official, called on national leaders to reconsider these restrictions. She emphasized the importance of supporting athletes like Phogat, who aspire to continue winning medals for their country post-motherhood.
