Pakistan has faced a significant setback in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle after being fined 40% of their match fee and losing eight crucial points due to a slow over-rate in their opening Test against Bangladesh. The slow over-rate affected Pakistan's position in the WTC standings, pushing them to eighth place, just above West Indies, with only four points.
The decision was made after Pakistan was found eight overs short of the target, according to the ICC, which announced the penalties on Friday. The visitors accepted the sanction, with captain Shan Masood admitting the offence, thereby forgoing a formal hearing.
Bangladesh secured the victory with a commanding final-day display, winning by 104 runs, led by Nahid Rana's remarkable five-wicket haul. The charge against Pakistan was presented by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Kumar Dharmasena, alongside third umpire Allahuddien Palekar and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel, with the sanction imposed by Jeff Crowe from the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
