Cricket enthusiasts will now have a chance to view historic photographs, vintage equipment, rare memorabilia and invaluable trophies associated with the game's journey in Assam at a special museum here.
The Assam Cricket Museum of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday evening, in the presence of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
''From preserving iconic memories to inspiring future champions, the Assam Cricket Museum at Barsapara stands as a tribute to Assam's rich cricketing legacy. Glad to inaugurate it today,'' Sarma said in a post after the inauguration.
Conceived as a tribute to the legacy of Assam cricket, the museum has an extensive collection of rare memorabilia, historic photographs, vintage cricket equipment, archival records, trophies, memento and invaluable records associated with the game's journey in the state.
The museum stands as a symbol of pride and remembrance, preserving Assam cricket's heritage while celebrating the achievements and dedication of those who contributed immensely to its rise, an ACA official said.
''Every exhibit has been carefully curated to preserve the history, culture and spirit of Assam cricket while inspiring future generations of cricketers to carry forward the legacy and strive for greater excellence,'' he added.
A documentary, 'The Golden Innings – Legacy of Assam Cricket', was also released by Sarma on the occasion.
It captures the inspiring journey of cricket in Assam, tracing its evolution through memorable achievements, historic milestones and the invaluable contributions of legendary cricketers and administrators who have shaped the sport in the state over the decades.
The museum and documentary were conceptualised by Saikia, who is a former first-class cricketer and ex-secretary of the ACA.
Speaking on the occasion, Saikia highlighted the importance of preserving the rich memories and legacy of Assam cricket through the museum and documentary, while reflecting on the remarkable transformation of cricket infrastructure in the state over the years.
ACA president Taranga Gogoi, in a post on X, said, ''Delighted to attend the inauguration of the newly constructed 'Assam Cricket Museum' at the cricket stadium complex in Guwahati along with Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. @himantabiswa dangoriya and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary @lonsaikia dangoriya, with the vision of preserving the rich history, heritage and glorious journey of Assam Cricket for future generations.''.
''Along with the inauguration of the museum, the documentary titled 'The Golden Innings: Legacy of Assam Cricket', directed by noted filmmaker Ujjal Kashyap dangoriya, was also officially unveiled,'' he said.
