Swiatek's Resilience Shines at French Open
Iga Swiatek advanced to the third round of the French Open, defeating Sara Bejlek 6-2, 6-3 despite numerous unforced errors. The four-time champion aims to regain top form at Roland Garros, where she will face either Jelena Ostapenko or Magda Linette in her next match.
World number three Iga Swiatek moved closer to top form at the French Open on Wednesday, securing a third-round berth with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Czech Sara Bejlek, despite a match plagued by unforced errors.
The reigning champion, marred by 38 unforced errors including several double faults, still demonstrated superior skill. Swiatek will face either Jelena Ostapenko or fellow Pole Magda Linette in her quest for a place in the last 16 at Roland Garros.
Swiatek quickly took a 5-1 lead on the sunlit Court Philippe Chatrier but stumbled, allowing Bejlek a break with a seventh-game double fault. Despite repeatedly mistaking speed for haste, she claimed the initial set easily. In a second set strewn with service breaks, Swiatek emerged victorious after Bejlek sent a forehand into the net, having adjusted to Bejlek's left-handed play style.
