Vinai Kumar Saxena in Ladakh called for a fierce crackdown on drug trafficking, mandating a zero-tolerance approach and intensified awareness efforts. He instructed police to perform random checks at Zoji-La and Sarchu to prevent drug smuggling into the region.

During discussions with civil society groups, Saxena highlighted the rising substance abuse problem, especially among young people and girls. Measures include strengthened surveillance around schools and tourist sites, and the launch of a widespread anti-drug awareness initiative in June. Rehabilitation measures are also being enhanced, with new facilities and vocational training for recovering individuals to help them reintegrate.
