Raja Randhir Singh, a distinguished figure in the world of sports, has passed away at the age of 79 in New Delhi. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that, as a mark of respect, the Olympic flag will be flown at half-mast for three days to honor Singh’s contributions to sports.
Renowned for his influential role in Asian sports, Singh was a five-time Olympian and notably the first Indian to ascend to the presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). His legacy in sports administration spanned decades, during which he significantly contributed to the development and growth of the Olympic Movement across Asia and globally.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry lauded Singh’s lifelong dedication and exceptional service to the Olympic Movement, highlighting his achievements as a shooter who inspired future Indian athletes. Singh also held prominent positions, such as Secretary General and later President of the OCA, and served as an IOC Member, making a lasting impact on the international sports community.
