Alphonso Davies has been selected for Canada's World Cup team despite concerns over his hamstring injury, sustained earlier this month during a Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. It remains uncertain if he will recover in time for Canada's opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12.
Coach Jesse Marsch, while announcing the 26-member squad, included Davies after seeing positive signs in his recovery progress. "I'm really hopeful that he has a few days to really recharge, and that he can come here prepared. His recovery is going well and his excitement remains high," Marsch expressed.
Canada's team, co-hosting the World Cup with the United States and Mexico, has embarked on a rigorous preparation schedule, with upcoming friendlies against Uzbekistan and Ireland before the tournament begins. Despite previous setbacks, with several players coming off recent injuries, the team seeks to build on its prior experiences as it competes in Group B, alongside Switzerland, Qatar, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Goalkeeper selections are still pending, with Maxime Crépeau and Dayne St. Clair vying for the starting role. "We are ready to support each other and stay focused on the team's success," Crépeau commented.
