The chair umpire intervened to calm the players, as Tiafoe ultimately seized the third-round win in four hours, triumphing 4-6, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (4), 6-1, 6-2. Reflecting on the dispute, Tiafoe noted that it invigorated him, comparing Faria's bravado to that of boxer Ryan Garcia. Tiafoe, who also won his previous match in five sets against Hubert Hurkacz, is set to face Matteo Arnaldi in the next round.
